Dive Brief:

  • As it preps for the holidays, specialty cookware retailer Sur La Table has partnered with Walmart GoLocal to offer same-day deliveries, according to a Tuesday press release.
  • Sur La Table plans to introduce the same-day delivery service across the U.S. by mid-November.
  • Shoppers who live about 20 miles from a Sur La Table location can receive a same-day delivery if their orders are placed by 2:30 p.m. local time. Orders received after 2:30 p.m. will be delivered the next day, according to the announcement.

Dive Insight:

Sur La Table is launching Walmart GoLocal-assisted deliveries just in time for the holidays, and a projected rise in e-commerce sales. A Deloitte report released in September predicted that online holiday sales could rise between 10.3% and 12.8% from last year, potentially propelling online sales to between $278 billion and $284 billion.

“Our customers choose Sur La Table for our high-quality kitchenware, and we’re excited to delight them with quicker delivery powered by Walmart GoLocal for their online orders, so they can make more, gather often and live their best life through food,” Rachel Frederick, president and general manager of e-commerce at Sur La Table, said in a statement.

Retailers have a history of improving their delivery offerings ahead of the holiday season, tapping services like DoorDash or Walmart GoLocal to speed up delivery in the all-important season. Curbside pickup offerings and buy online, pick up in store have also gained traction since the pandemic, which led more shoppers to seek out contactless options. Already this year, Etsy has guaranteed on-time delivery for the season and big-box players like Target are touting their same-day delivery services.

Through a partnership with Walmart GoLocal, Sur La Table says that it is able to expand its e-commerce capabilities and facilitate convenience, reliability and satisfaction for its shoppers.

As more retailers begin using Walmart’s GoLocal delivery service, the company has surpassed its previous goals for delivery locations. Last October, Harsit Patel, vice president and general manager of Walmart GoLocal, said the company exceeded its year-end projection to deliver from 5,000 retail and business locations, a milestone it wasn’t expecting to reach in its first year.

“Offering convenient, dependable delivery to our clients is a cornerstone of Walmart GoLocal’s offerings,” Eliza Wendel, senior director and head of sales and business development at Walmart GoLocal, said in a statement.

Since launching the service in 2021, Walmart has worked to grow its GoLocal reach. In January, the company announced that it would offer its store fulfillment technology, Walmart Commerce Technologies Store Assist, and local delivery services, Walmart GoLocal, to other retailers on Salesforce Commerce Cloud.

Former Shipt Chief Business Officer Rina Hurst in October was named the new vice president of Walmart GoLocal. Hurst will lead its strategic direction, operations and general management, and focus on scaling its business and expanding GoLocal’s capabilities to meet retailers’ fulfillment needs.
