Foot Locker opens $40M Nevada distribution center for West Coast

Foot Locker has opened a new distribution center in Reno, Nevada, as it looks to speed up shipping times in the Western U.S., the company announced Nov. 17.

The 465,000-square-foot distribution center is set to handle more than 20 million items. The $40 million plus investment will serve over 300 stores on the West Coast and add approximately 200 full-time jobs.

The distribution center is Foot Locker's second largest in the United States. It “will serve the Western part of the country, cutting shipping times in the area by more than 50%,” Frank Bracken, executive vice president and now chief commercial officer, said on the company’s Q3 earnings call.

The expansion comes as the athletic retailer plans to close its Wausau, Wisconsin, distribution center by the end of its fiscal year, Bracken said. “Prior to 2021, we served the entire country out of that [Wisconsin] facility,” along with another center in Kansas, he added. The Nevada facility extends the company’s two-day shipping coverage to over 95% of the United States.

The center in Nevada will service stores including Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker and Champs Sports, as well as digital and website properties.

The facility “will allow us to respond to the ever-changing needs of our customers while strengthening our larger supply chain network," Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain Todd Greener said in a statement.
