Offering an innovative online grocery delivery service, buymie is on a mission to help time-poor customers receive quick, quality food deliveries. The Dublin-based firm has just picked up €7 million in fresh funding, with its total funding now sitting at €18.2 million.

The investment was led by by the company’s largest backers including Grosvenor Food & AgTech,  Act Venture Capital, Sure Valley Ventures, Haatch Ventures, and HBAN. Other notable investors in this round include Keith Weed CBE, former Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for Unilever and Eamonn Quinn former Deputy Chairman of the Superquinn Group and Chairman of buymie.

Launched in 2016, buymie uses an innovative real-time order bundling algorithm to navigate the grocery delivery service, and reported that in 2021 they saves 100k trips  by reducing the number of individual consumer car trips for groceries. Not only is the service offering convenience to users, but clearly there are also environmental impacts as well.

buymie users have no limitation on basket size and have access to whatever products are in a customer’s local store. A personal shopper is then appointed, allowing for seamless communication during the shopping process, and ensuring the best substitutions and highest quality fresh produce are selected.

By using local personal shoppers picking from local stores, the buymie grocery delivery service has been delighting time-poor customers in Ireland and the UK. Customers are able to note specific preferences on their orders and can opt-in for a call from their shopper in-store if items are out of stock. Unlike traditional eCommerce solutions, buymie can deliver on the same day and can fulfil orders in as little as 1-hour.

buymie’s big basket, same-day grocery delivery service is available to over 2 million households across Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Galway and Leeds and Bristol in the UK. The service has now been used by one in eight households across Dublin. buymie works closely with official retail partners Dunnes Stores, Lidl and The Co-op.

In March this year, buymie announced a major new partnership with Asda to launch the service in Leeds and Bristol, and was enlisted to build a customised ASDA Express app. This partnership with one of the UK’s biggest supermarket brands surely brings huge credentials to the company. The funds will be used to enable buymie to continue rapid market expansion in both Ireland and the UK, with about 200 other cities currently being considered.

Devan Hughes, CEO & Co-Founder of buymie said: “This latest round of funding follows the successful launch of our newest retail partnership with ASDA across multiple cities in the UK. This capital will allow the business to continue its focus on developing best in class technology while helping our retail partners transform their online and in-store capabilities to better serve their customers and unlock growth opportunities.”

Keith Weed former Chief Marketing Officer of Unilever PLC now sitting on the board of directors of both Sainsbury’s and WPP, said: “The grocery retail landscape is being transformed by platform technology. It is very clear that the growth and margin opportunities of the future for retailers will be unlocked through capabilities facilitated by businesses and technology like buymie”.
