Amsterdam’s Cheflix raises €2 million for its ‘Netflix of star chefs’ streaming platform #StartUps

Amsterdam-based Cheflix, a streaming platform that provides masterclasses from Michelin chefs and experts has just raised €2 million in a fresh round of funding, coming from a Dutch Family Fund.

The streaming sector is experiencing a massive boom at the moment, aided by global lockdowns, and Cheflix, launched in January 2021, has seen explosive growth in a short time. The ‘Netflix of  Michelin star chefs’ already has tens of thousands of subscribers.

Founded by Thomas van Burg and Jeroen van den Brink, the streaming startup is geared towards everyone who loves cooking and good food, regardless of their cooking experience or level. The platform has a catalogue of videos showing Michelin star chiefs teaching step-by-step how to quickly and easily put great dishes on the table.

The platform provides online masterclasses with an average duration of 10 minutes each in order to help users learn in their own way and at their own pace. With each masterclass, users can download a workbook with all the recipes, take notes and have handy shopping lists immediately at hand.

Jeroen van den Brink, the co-founder of Cheflix, said: “These international masterclasses are in fact like small feature films. The films are unique in that we make the recordings at the chefs’ homes in their own kitchen or at beautiful locations such as a vineyard.”

Using in-app User Experience and Artificial Intelligence technology, the startup also aims to present customised content for each user, meaning that a vegetarian, for example, won’t come across recipes with meat.

In addition to the masterclasses, viewers can also learn all about wines, champagnes, cocktails and bread making, giving foodies subscribers access to a wide range of content.

The fresh funding will help Cheflix accelerate its international growth, starting in the UK and Scandinavia. In addition, the funds will allow for marketing and team expansion in order to produce new content and add even more international famous chefs to the guestlist.
