James Caan (born Nazim Khan) changed his name by deed poll to match the Hollywood star of the same name. He was a recruitment and property entrepreneur before he entered the Den. He founded the Alexander Mann Group before selling it in 2002, co-founded head-hunting company Humana International which he exited in 1999.

He came into the Den in 2007 and over three series he made 18 investments including Rapstrap which he backed with Duncan Bannatyne. They invested £150,000 in exchange for 50 per cent of the business.

James Caan left after four seasons of Dragons’ Den to devote time to the ventures he’s already invested in. He founded the James Caan Foundation in 2006 and became the chairman of Start Up Loans in 2012 for three years.

He is the current CEO of Hamilton Shaw, a private equity firm which he also founded. Now he’s a business and motivational speaker as well as a mentor.
