European e-scooter operator TIER set to deploy 500 e-bikes in the UK Capital #StartUps

#BusinessGuide

Europe’s largest micro-mobility company TIER has launched 500 e-bikes in Islington, London, as part of their mission to roll out e-scooters as a green transport option across London in 2022. This is in partnership with the London Borough of Islington.

TIER has also recently completed a successful Series D funding round, raising €172 million at a €1.7 billion valuation. TIER’s e-bikes have already been successfully introduced in several European cities, including Paris, Eindhoven, and York. The company has now consolidated its position as the best funded micro-mobility business in Europe.

As a fully climate-neutral company, the young company employs local teams who travel through the city on electric cargo bikes and vans to replace flat batteries on-site. TIER vehicles therefore don’t need to go to a warehouse to be recharged.

As one of London’s chosen operators for the current e-scooter trial in the city, the company believes its e-bikes can help cut congestion and pollution in the capital, and encourage Londoners to move around the city in a more sustainable way. This deployment, and ambitious plans to expand through 2022, will help reduce a reliance on cars, giving Londoners more options for sustainable travel. According to the Urban Transport Group, an evaluation of e-bike schemes across continental Europe found that typically around half of e-bike trips replaced car trips.

Georgia Yexley, Head of Cities UK and Ireland, said: “At TIER we are passionate about cutting emissions and improving air quality in cities across Europe. We know e-bikes can play a significant role in encouraging people to ditch their cars and switch to greener modes of transport.”

TIER’s London e-bikes will initially be available from parking bays across Islington, and will be charged at the same rate as e-scooters, just £1 to unlock and £0.15 per minute rigid. There are also day and monthly passes available, benefitting regular riders and those turning to e-bikes for their daily commute.

This exciting rollout comes on the back of COP26 and marks a step forward for London in hitting its climate targets.

Cllr Rowena Champion, Islington Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We’re working tirelessly to help tackle the climate emergency by making Islington a cleaner, greener, healthier place to live….The arrival of TIER’s e-bike service in Islington will provide another environmentally-friendly, convenient and fun way to travel around our borough, and we look forward to seeing local people taking up the opportunity to use them.”
