The American novelist Scott Fitzgerald famously said that there are no second acts in American lives. He might have said the same about professional footballers – however, Dion Dublin, 52, disproves that axiom.

The unassuming Dion Dublin was a top striker for both Manchester United and Coventry City in the late Nineties before ending his career at Norwich City in 2008.

Like other soccer stars, Dublin went on to become a TV pundit for Sky Sports and a radio commentator for BBC Radio 5 Live.

However, he found daytime TV fame as a presenter on BBC property show Homes Under the Hammer, which he joined in 2015.

Dublin said: “Whilst playing football, I started to acquire a variety of properties … buying, selling and building my rental portfolio. That was the start of my passion for property.”

So much so that this year Dion Dublin launched his own property auction house Lot 9.

But running his own property auction business is not his first dabble in running his own business.

Previously, Dion Dublin invented his own percussive box, called The Dube, aimed at professional musicians. The invention went on to be used by jazz musician Courtney Pine and renowned session drummer Thomas Lang, who’s worked with Peter Gabriel, George Michael and various Spice Girls.
