Hodinkee names former Goat CTO its chief product, technology officer

#SmallBusiness

Dive Brief:

  • Continuing the company's digital transformation, Hodinkee has appointed Andy Shin to serve as its chief product and technology officer, according to a Tuesday press release emailed to Retail Dive.
  • Bringing 20 years of experience developing software and technologies for consumer internet and e-commerce companies, Shin will oversee Hodinkee's strategic development and rollout of new digital products and services.
  • Shin joins the company from sneaker marketplace Goat Group, where he served as its chief technology officer. He grew Goat's engineering staff from five employees to more than 100 to support the platform as it rose to more than $3.75 billion in value, according to the announcement.

Dive Insight:

Shin arrives at Hodinkee as the watch company works to revamp its digital strategy. Just this month, the company launched Hodinkee Pre-Owned, a platform where people can buy, sell and trade used watches from brands like Rolex, Cartier and Patek Philippe.

Shin steps into his new role, effective immediately, from Goat Group, which has seen success in the sneaker resale space. In June, the platform raised $195 million in Series F funding to strengthen its sneaker, accessories, and clothing verticals and grow globally, starting with facilities in Chicago, China, Japan and Singapore. Shin developed Goat's "ship-to-verify" marketplace model and was responsible for the company's mobile apps, marketplace technology, and warehouse and inventory management systems, among other things.

"Andy has played a significant role in the development and growth of some of today's most successful e-commerce marketplaces," Hodinkee CEO Toby Bateman said in a statement. "His technical expertise combined with modern consumer insights and ability to effectively manage and scale teams, make him the ideal choice for the brand's first chief product and technology officer."

As Hodinkee hires an experienced technology executive to execute its digital strategy, the company joins a host of others that have named new CTOs this year. Among them, HBC promoted its senior vice president of omnichannel to the role in June, Boosted Commerce tapped a former Goop exec as CTO in September and Tailored Brands named a former Kohl's exec CTO that same month.
