Software AG launches adabas auditing for z/OS to manage growing data security demands #IoT

Software AG launched Adabas Auditing for z/OS, a new product for its Adabas database on IBM Z that will help companies collect, archive and monitor all data interactions.

The new product goes beyond traditional monitoring capabilities ,which typically focus only on data changes to include any data access, including identifying what data was read by whom and when. It was developed in collaboration with Beta Systems.

Adabas Auditing for z/OS launches at a time when organisations are faced with stricter and broader data management regulations and a myriad security risks. In addition, organisations want to achieve better transparency of the data and process around their mainframes in order to offer security and privacy assurances to their customers. This becomes necessary as more sophisticated application ecosystems develop around mainframes, due to the wealth of insight they contain.

Arno Theiss, head of Adabas & Natural at Software AG commented, “Companies are increasing caught between a rock and a hard place; on one side they need to make data access more secure; and on the other they need to open up their mainframes to more data requests and connections than ever before. It’s very difficult to deliver service and security excellence at the same time. We are aiming to ease that burden for companies using IBM Z with the introduction of Adabas Auditing for z/OS.”

Adabas Auditing for z/OS will assist security officers and auditors in compiling compliance reports, as well as database administrators responsible for day-to-day management. A number of new features help boost speed and accuracy, including:

  • Customisable audit criteria and retention periods: allow organisations to personalise their processes to meet their specific requirements, manage their deadlines and adapt with evolving regulations.
  • Long-term archives: secured and indexed for easy search.
  • Web-based access to audit data: makes it easier to identify unauthorised access and track the activity of authorised users or programs. This helps organisations form a complete picture of who, what and when for their data.

Beta Systems develops infrastructure software products for the secure and efficient processing of large amounts of data. It assisted Software AG in the development of this new product, using its extensive expertise in data archiving and compliance. The partnership with Beta Systems has helped Software AG create these new auditing and compliance improvements for Adabas & Natural customers.
