Retail Therapy: White Castle serves fast food with style #SmallBiz

It's been another weird week in retail. White Castle is celebrating 100 years with a Telfar collab, Heinz and Ocean Spray might create a jar of gravy and cranberry mixture, and gourmet cat food Fancy Feast released a digital cookbook for humans.

This, and more, in this week's retail therapy.

White Castle teams up with renowned fashion house Telfar

Want some fashion to go with your Original Sliders?

White Castle is serving you the outfit your eyes deserve.

As the fast-food chain celebrates its 100th birthday, White Castle employees will soon be sporting some new uniforms created by award-winning fashion house Telfar, the restaurant chain announced Tuesday. The new uniform collection features a T-shirt, polo shirt, apron, visor and durag — all in the brand's classic light blue, royal blue or black colors.

This launch is the first time the company added a durag to its collection. It was added to the collection in response to requests from multiple White Castle employees.

Elliott Jerome Brown Jr.

"We wanted something special for our 100th birthday that captures the authentic spirit of White Castle and, as always, TELFAR came through for us," said Jamie Richardson, a vice president at White Castle.

The new uniform designs stem from White Castle's five-year brand partnership with Telfar. Since the two brands began working together, Telfar has designed and produced three other sets of White Castle employee outfits.

If you're not an employee, you can still get your hands on the limited-edition White Castle and Telfar collection, which includes hats, hoodies and T-shirts. All proceeds from the limited-edition collection will go to the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Liberty and Justice Fund to help raise bail for minors in prison.

The gravy and cranberry concoction no one asked for

Some people love to have gravy and cranberry on their table every Thanksgiving, so why not mix them together?

That may be what Heinz and Ocean Spray had in mind when they announced the "Cravy"— a mixture between Heinz's Homestyle Gravy and Ocean Spray's Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce.

Thanksgiving is still a few months away, but the @HeinzTweets Twitter account promised to make the Cravy a reality if 250,000 people voted "Indeed" on the social media poll on April 1st.

While the account did make the announcement on April Fool's Day, The Takeout confirmed that the brands would, in fact, stay true to their promise if the crowd of Twitter users approves of the concept.

However, as of press time, Twitter users are not so keen on the idea of combining the two classic Thanksgiving condiments. Out of 117,346 voters, only 29.1% voted "Indeed," while 70.9% voted "I think not."

The account tagged other brands like Campbell's, Lay's and even Oreo — a snack known for launching a hefty list of collaborations with other brands and celebrities — to chime in.

Either way, the chances of having a jar of Cravy this thanksgiving looks rather slim.

Fancy Feast releases a cookbook for people

Cat owners want the best for their furry friends.

When Fancy Feast launched its new line for kitties called Petites, the gourmet cat food brand also produced a digital cookbook for humans inspired by their "cat's new favorite Petites entrees," according to a company press release last week.

The cookbook includes 12 different human recipes, such as chicken and ramen with tomato honey butter sauce, and whitefish and asparagus with beurre blanc. Fancy Feast's in-house chef Amanda Hassner put the recipes together alongside guest chefs Jerrelle Guy and Josh Snyder.

"Each dish was inspired by the small-plate restaurant trend. The recipes are for humans but were created in honor of the dishes you will be serving your cat," Hassner said.
