A more traditional romp through Thedas is now on the table.

What you need to know

  • The next Dragon Age game is still a ways off and does not have an official title.
  • According to Bloomberg, the game was originally planned as having a multiplayer portion.
  • This multiplayer has reportedly been dropped and the game will now be a single-player RPG.

There's still a lot we don't know about the next Dragon Age game, such as the official title or how gameplay has changed. According to a new report from Bloomberg however, we can be sure it's a single-player role-playing game.

According to the report, this upcoming fourth game in the Dragon Age franchise was originally planned to include a "heavy multiplayer component" but that EA executives were convinced by BioWare leads to take a different direction after seeing the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which crossed 10 million players in its first four months.

The next Dragon Age game has been in some stage of development since 2015, with multiple leads leaving the project, while the game was officially revealed at the 2018 Game Awards. Currently, the game is led by creative director Matthew Goldman, with Christian Dailey as the new executive producer for the Dragon Age franchise as a whole. The game is set somewhere in the Tevinter Imperium but may also explore other lands such as Antiva.

Just recently, BioWare announced that the planned Anthem Next overhaul has been canceled, while the developers working on it would transition over to new projects as the studio has "laser focus" on both the upcoming Dragon Age game and the next Mass Effect title. Meanwhile, the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition remaster is currently planned to release on May 14, 2021.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

Commander Shepard's story

With Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, you can experience all three classic games like never before. Improved graphics, gameplay and every bit of DLC ensure this is a remaster worth grabbing.
