Destiny 2's 'Crimson Days' event has been discontinued by Bungie

#Tech

Roses are red, violets are blue. Bungie's removing Crimson Days from Destiny 2.

What you need to know

  • Bungie has announced that Crimson Days, the yearly Valentine's Day-themed Destiny 2 event, has been discontinued.
  • The reason behind the event's departure is that Bungie feels the quality of the event has not been high.
  • However, Bungie did say that this move will help it focus more on seasonal content.
  • Crimson Doubles, the Crucible playlist active during Crimson Days, has been removed for now but may return in the future.

Bungie has announced in a new blog post that it has discontinued Crimson Days, the Valentine's Day-themed Destiny 2 event that traditionally runs during the month of February. Bungie states that the reason behind the discontinuation is that the studio feels Crimson Days has "been missing the mark in terms of quality over the last few years." Bungie additionally stated that while the event will be missed, the move to discontinue it will give the developers more time to focus on seasonal content.

"We have quite a bit planned for Season of the (REDACTED)," Bungie said, teasingly referring to Season 13. "Our hope is that we've maintained, or even improved, the quality you've come to expect from this upcoming release."

Interestingly, while Crimson Days seems to be going away for good, it sounds like we may see Crimson Doubles (the unique Crimson Days Crucible gamemode) return sometime down the line. Bungie confirmed that it won't be in Destiny 2 this year, but we may see it come back in 2022 and future years. Only time will tell!

What do you think about Bungie's decision? Personally, I'm completely fine with it, as I've always thought Crimson Days was an underwhelming event that didn't have the best rewards. Let me know what you think down below.

Destiny 2's latest expansion, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, is available now for $40 on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One consoles, and Windows 10 PCs. If you've never played Destiny 2, I highly recommend trying it out (don't miss my beginner's guide on how to get into Destiny 2 in 2021 if you do) since the base game is free. It's one of the best Xbox One shooters, so don't be afraid to give it a shot.
