Need to know your PC's specs? Here are four easy ways to find 'em.

#Tech

If you need to find your Windows 10 device technical specification, in this guide, we'll show you four ways to complete this task.

On Windows 10, the ability to view the specs of the device can be useful in many scenarios. For instance, it can be handy when you want to install a new program and want to confirm the hardware meets the minimum requirements. In the case of performance problems, understanding the specs can help determine the hardware that needs an upgrade. Or if the computer isn't working, and you have to troubleshoot the problem.

Regardless of the situation, Windows 10 includes at least five ways to find the PC specs, such as Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) or Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) firmware details, device model number, processor, memory, drives, graphics, Windows version, and updates. The only caveat is that depending on the method, the properties available could be slightly different.

In this Windows 10 guide, we walk you through the steps to check the full list of hardware and software specifications of your computer.

How to find computer hardware specs using Settings

On Windows 10, the Settings app can show all the basic hardware and software specs you want to know, including processor, memory, and OS details.

To determine the device specs with the About settings page, use these steps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on System.
  3. Click on About.
  4. Check the Device specifications section to view the computer name, processor, the total amount of memory, system architecture, and included touch and pen support.

Quick note: Starting with the October 2020 Update, the page also includes an option to make it easier to copy the device tech specs to the clipboard, which you can share with other people.

  5. Check the Windows specifications section to determine the edition of Windows 10 (Pro or Home), version number, the date when the feature update was installed, and the current build number (the number after the period indicates the quality update release).

Once you complete the steps, you'll have a clear understanding of the computer's basic technical specifications.

How to find computer specs using System Information

System Information has been part of Windows for a long time, and it's still among the best options to get a complete overview of the device's technical specifications.

To view all the hardware specs of a device, use these steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for msinfo32 and click the top result to open the System Information app.
  3. Select the System Summary category from the left navigation pane.

  4. On the right side, confirm the computer specs, including system model and type, processor brand and model, UEFI (or legacy BIOS) version and other details, memory installed, motherboard brand and model, and virtualization support.
  5. (Optional) Expand the Components branch and select the Display option to view the graphics card information.

After you complete the steps, you'll have a detailed overview of the desktop or laptop specs.

In the case that you need to determine specific details about a property, the System Information tool offers a search option at the bottom of the page to quickly find the information you need. (This isn't your regular search experience, so you must use exact text queries.)

Create hardware specs report

You can also create a full report with the system specifications using the System Information app, which you can save for later viewing or share with technical support if you're troubleshooting a problem.

To create a report with the system specs on Windows 10, use these steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for msinfo32 and click the top result to open the System Information app.
  3. Select the specifications to export.

Quick tip: Selecting System Summary will export everything. However, if you only need to export the graphics card details, you only need to select the Display item from the left navigation pane.

  4. Click on the File menu.
  5. Click the Export option.

  6. Select the location to save the file.
  7. Type a descriptive name for the report. For instance, "Windows 10 PC specs".
  8. Click the Save button.
  9. Open the folder containing the exported information.
  10. Double-click the text file to view the exported system information.

After you complete the steps, the system details will be exported into a text file, which you can then open with any text editor.

How to find computer specs using DirectX Diagnostic Tool

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool is a tool designed to collect and display information about your device DirectX sound and video to troubleshoot different system problems. However, you can also use it to find out some basic specs, similar to information available in the Settings app.

To check your computer specs with the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, use the steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for dxdiag and click the top result to open the app.
  3. Click on the System tab.
  4. Under the "System information" section, check the computer specs, including processor, memory, system model and manufacturer, version and edition of Windows 10, and more.

  5. Click the Display tab.
  6. Under the "Device" section, check the graphics card information, such as name and manufacturer, graphics memory, and monitor details.

  7. (Optional) Click the Save All Information button.

  8. Select the folder destination.
  9. Type a descriptive name for the report. For instance, "Windows 10 PC specs".
  10. Click the Save button.
  11. Open the folder containing the exported information.
  12. Double-click the text file to view the exported system information.

How to find computer specs using Command Prompt

You can also use System Information with Command Prompt to view even more tech specs details about your computer's hardware and software.

To find the computer specs with Command Prompt, use these steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.
  3. Type the following command to find your device specs and press Enter:

    systeminfo

Quick tip: You can also run the systeminfo /? command to see the available options using this tool with Command Prompt.

Once you complete the steps, the command output will display all the information about your device's hardware and software, including Windows 10 and update information, system architecture, BIOS or UEFI firmware, RAM, and network details.

If you want to save the output received from PowerShell or Command Prompt commands to a text file, you can use these instructions.

How to find computer specs using PowerShell

To use PowerShell to check your computer hardware specs, use these steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for PowerShell, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.
  3. Type the following command to determine your computer specs and press Enter:

    Get-ComputerInfo

  4. (Optional) Type the following command to view only a specific hardware or software details and press Enter:

    Get-ComputerInfo -Property "PROPERTY-NAME"

In this command, make sure to change PROPERTIES-NAME for the details you want to review.

For example, the following command displays everything regarding the BIOS information:

    Get-ComputerInfo -Property "bios*"

Quick note: In the command, the asterisk * is a wildcard to match every property about the BIOS.

After you complete the steps, the PowerShell command will output a full list of the OS and hardware information.
