HP business laptops just got a battery health boost

#Tech

HP business laptops can now detect if HP Battery Health Manager is disabled and enable it.

What you need to know

  • HP and Microsoft worked together to detect if HP Battery Health Manager is disabled on laptops.
  • HP Battery Health Manager helps laptop batteries remain healthy in the long run.
  • The fix comes in the Windows 10 KB4583263 update.

HP and Microsoft worked together to fix an issue affecting HP Battery Health Manager within certain HP business notebooks. The fix detects if HP business laptops have HP Battery Health Manager disabled in their BIOS. The fix can then enable HP Battery Health Manager if needed. The update addressing the battery health issue comes in the Windows 10 KB4583263 update.

HP Battery Health Manager is a BIOS-level setting available on several HP business laptops, including ProBook, EliteBook, ZBook, and Elite Dragonfly devices. The setting optimizes battery life by lowering the frequency of high state-of-charge. If left unmitigated, high state-of-charge can speed up battery swelling and aging.

If someone wants to disable HP Battery Health Manager, they can select "Maximize My Battery Duration" as a default setting. HP does not recommend disabling this feature, however, as overcharging can hurt battery health over time. HP's support website breaks down the feature further and lists laptops that have HP Battery Health Manager.
