Paris-based Wellium gets €2 million to develop its video doctor appointment tool Leah #StartUps

French startup Wellium, a leading player in telemedicine, has announced raising €2 million from Advent France Biotechnology and the MACSF group. The funds will be used to support its growth of its tool Leah, an online consultation and video appointment service for doctors. More relevant now than ever during the current times of coronavirus, teleconsultation reduces the risk of contagion in the waiting room.

Wellium, founded in 2016, first became known thanks to its first product called Feelae, an off-the-shelf teleconsultation application for individuals. For the past two years, the company has continued to expand and has focused on Leah, an online tool for private doctors and healthcare establishments, integrating teleconsultation with their patients while respecting the care path.

With the digital transition of medicine underway, society is going through profound changes. Especially now with the hit of coronavirus, patients are being advised to stay at home and away from the doctor’s waiting room, reducing the risk of further infections. Just last week another startup in Tallinn, Viveo Health, was funded to deploy a similar service further across Estonia.

The investors in this round bring their expertise to help Wellium deploy its services first on a national level. Advent France Biotechnology (AFB) is an investment fund expert in medical innovation, and offers the ideal support for Leah, in the context of using technology to facilitate access to care. MACSF, a leading insurer for healthcare professionals, can offer its expertise on the needs of practitioners, compliance with regulations and medical ethics, as well as health data.

Alban de Crémiers, CEO of Wellium, comments: “We are proud to bring Advent France Biotechnology to our capital to develop Leah. This well known venture capital firm will work alongside Wellium in the great adventure of teleconsultation in France, which responds to a major need of enabling practitioners and healthcare establishments to improve the monitoring of their patients. Combining our skills in this way offers us great prospects for development in this area, which is essential for the daily lives of French people.

Alain Huriez, President and Managing Partner at AFB adds: “At Advent France Biotechnology, we select and finance innovations in the field of health likely to lead to better patient care. With Leah and its teleconsultation solution, we find a very relevant and modular digital offer that can quickly establish itself as a standard in the market, as well as remarkable entrepreneurial skills.”

Nicolas Gombault, Deputy Managing Director of MACSF declares: “MACSF is frequently asked to finance e-health solutions. We are particularly interested in anything that can contribute to improving the quality of care and working conditions of our member clients, while respecting the ethics and regulations in force. It is quite natural that we selected Wellium for its teleconsultation solutions Feelae and Leah, whose relevance can only be more significant in these moments marked by the coronavirus.
